Cigarette Smuggling
How many packets of cigarettes can you fit into a container lorry?
![]()
Volume = Height x Width x Length
![]()
No of Packets = Volume of Lorry / Volume of one Packet
I don't know! but it must be about 300,000
Note: Due to UK taxes the high street cost of a packet of cigarettes is about £4.50 ($6.75). Selling them without tax (illegally!) at £4.00 still makes ~£2 profit per pack. This means that selling a single truck load could easily make £500,000 ($750,000).
My Answer: 300,000
Assume that the internal dimensions of a container lorry are 6m x 2.5m x 2.5m and that a pack of cigarettes is 2.5 cm x 8cm x 6cm.
Volume = Height x Width x Length
--> Volume of lorry = 6*2.5*2.5 = 37.5 m3
--> Volume of cigarette packet = 0.025*0.08*0.06 = 0.00012m3
No of Packets = Volume of Lorry / Volume of one Packet
--> No. of cigarette packets in one lorry = 37.5 / 0.00012
= ~300,000
